Michele and Gene Rice of Bucks County are inspiring children’s dreams

Posted

For children with big dreams, opportunity can make all the difference. That is the mission behind the Plant a Seed Inspire a Dream Foundation, a nonprofit helping children from Philadelphia to Trenton pursue the passions that shape confidence, discipline, and possibility.

The foundation provides annual scholarships for children ages 10 to 18 from low-income families so they can participate in athletic, artistic, musical, and educational programs outside of school. Whether a child dreams of playing a sport, learning an instrument, dancing, painting, coding, or exploring another creative pursuit, Plant a Seed helps remove the financial barriers that might otherwise stand in the way.

Founded by Michele and Gene Rice of Upper Makefield, Plant a Seed takes a uniquely personal approach. Before any scholarship is awarded, Michele and Gene meet directly with the child and their parent or parents to learn about the student’s interests, commitment, and goals. These conversations ensure that every scholarship supports a genuine passion and gives each child the encouragement to pursue it.

Since its founding, the organization has helped more than 900 children pursue activities ranging from boxing and gymnastics to dance, music, horseback riding, art, and other programs that foster creativity and personal growth. Scholarships are awarded annually and can be renewed each year, allowing children to continue developing their talents and confidence over time.

By investing in young people and the passions that inspire them, Plant a Seed continues to make a lasting impact on families throughout the region.
