Abington Line Model Railroad Club’s Open House

Posted

Are you jonesing to get out of the house this weekend and go explore the countryside, the mountains, the city or a harbor town? It would take at least a month's worth of weekends to visit each region.  Not to mention some planning, reservations and a tidy sum in gas to reach each of these destinations!

What if there is a place that would satisfy all these locations in a few hours with breathtaking sights and sounds. A stroll down memory lane to a simpler way of life and not have to break the bank to get there.

You say there is no such place or it’s a fantasy? Well, the members of the Abington Lines Model Railroad Club disagree and can prove it with a visit to their Club located at 2066 Second Street Pike in Richboro.

Come visit the HO scale club during our 2025 open house season and follow one of our many trains traversing through urban, country, mountain and harbor scenes. There is a towering viaduct, numerous bridges spanning rivers, creeks and urban roadways. Watch trains disappear into tunnels and re-appear several minutes later on the other side of the layout.

There are multiple steam and diesel-powered trains, complete with the nostalgic sounds you have grown accustomed to, running over the east and west bound mainlines. Visit the seaside wharf where freight cars are carefully loaded and unloaded off a floating barge. Catch a trolley running from a bustling cityscape through the countryside and dropping passengers off in a town clinging to the side of a mountain. Complete with a row of buildings with detailed interiors. Or watch the steam powered narrow gauge train modeled after the famed Denver & Rio Grande Western meander from a logging camp to a working sawmill and then exchange cars at the terminal with its standard gauge big brother.

You may even see the Ringling Brothers Circus train make an appearance traveling to its next destination!

The club’s layout occupies a 20x60 foot room with over 13 scale miles of  mainline track. It typically takes one train close to 20 minutes to complete one lap around the room.

The club’s open house dates are December 6, 7, 13, and 14. Beginning in 2026, the open house takes place January 3 and 4 and February 7 and 8. Doors are open at noon and close at 4 pm each day. Admission with donation. There is a raffle for model train sets, and membership inquiries are always welcomed.

So come lose yourself for a few hours and immerse your senses in our miniature weekend get away!
